Week 29

Today marks the 29th week of our pregnancy. I just got really nervous! 1 week until we're at week 30 - the final stretch! I just told Brian "do you realize next week is 30 weeks and we've done nothing, nothing?!" I'm hoping this weekend he will have time to set up Ella Grace's crib and we can go shopping for her mattress, dresser, rocking chair, all the necessities, etc. Once her furniture is in place, I can start going through the 6 huge boxes of baby shower gifts my parents shipped to us and washing lots of dresses!

Below is more information about Ella this week:

At 29 weeks pregnant, Ella Grace is almost 17 inches tall now (nearly as tall as she will be at birth), close to three pounds ((a weight that will likely more than double — and may even come close to tripling (let's hope not! I was 6 lbs even!) — by delivery time)), and the size of a squash. Her wrinkled skin is smoothing out as more fat is deposited under the skin surface. This fat, called white fat, is different from the earlier brown fat that she accumulated. Brown fat is necessary for body temperature regulation while white fat (the fat you have, Mom) actually serves as an energy source.

This explains why Ella feels so…well…energized! Space in her living quarters is now at a premium, so I'll be feeling jabs and pokes from elbows and knees mostly. But those kicks will be more vigorous than before (and also less erratic) because she is stronger and excitedly responding to all sorts of stimuli — movement, sounds, light, etc.

It won't be long before you'll need to buy that first baby toothbrush! If you recall, her baby-teeth buds formed weeks ago, but now the buds for permanent teeth are forming in her gums as well.

Ella is definitely growing - I've gained about 6-7 lbs in the last 3.5 weeks! My doctor should be happy since I was still on the low-end of weight gain at our last visit. My belly is getting bigger and she's moving around a lot from time to time too. Today, I was in a meeting, looked down, and my stomach was moving all over the place. It looked so funny!

Overall, I'm feeling good. My back is not hurting nearly as much as it was a week ago, which is awesome! I think I have a cold brewing but am hoping it will pass or be a short-lived one! The tiredness is definitely coming back but some days I am finding a bit more energy. I'm also trying to get to the gym 3 or so times a week to walk on the treadmill and keep my upper body strength up...I've definitely been slacking in that area.

Brian and I are extremely busy with work and can't wait to take a few days off at the end of February for our trip to Maui (as long as I don't have any complications). We have been very blessed with this pregnancy so far and hope and pray Ella and I will stay healthy over the next 10 or so weeks.
